Stone and Chisel

The Stone masons Guild of St. Stephen and St. George was based in the Church of St. Clements on Colecate, Norwich.

Gildencraft, founded in 2015 was set-up with the intention of training 80 apprentices even with those of ‘hard to reach’ backgrounds. Apprentices would be taught through the traditional ways of stone masonry dating back hundreds of years.

This also included the daily wearing of their paper hat, which showed the apprentice’s makers mark. Processions through the city in traditional clothing and even performing plays on the street were a part of the apprentices activities.

Unfortunately Gildencraft was closed in October 2018.
